The Motor Racing Game

January 26, 2013

Week 1

Filed under: Uncategorized — iomracer @ 2:45 pm

This year’s game begins with the WRC Rally Sweden on February 7th. Picks need to be made at www.roadracetracks.com/motorracinggame.shtml by midnight GMT on Thursday (7th) (7 p.m. EST in the U.S.) Please note that this is a change to last year’s timings, when it was midnight Eastern Time in the U.S. The change is made since GMT is the global standard for time, and this is an international game (and it helps programming too).

For the benefit of any new players here’s a quick rundown of the general rules:

- Every week for 43 weeks players pick their top 10 drivers/cars from any of the following series that are competing that weekend (maximum of 7 in any one series): F1, WRC, MotoGP, NASCAR, Indycar, ALMS, WEC, and DTM.

- Where the driver/car finishes in their race determines a player’s points: 50 for a win, 40 for 2nd, 35 for 3rd, then 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20 for 10th, and 1 less point down to 2 points for 28th, 2 for 29th, 2 for 30th, and 1 point each for finishing positions 31 through 43. No points if the driver is not classified in the officially published results.

- Points accumulate throughout the year with the player with the most total points being crowned the motor racing game champion (good for bragging rights).

- If a player misses a week they receive 90% of the lowest score among players who did play (higher percentage during the first 3 weeks to encourage people to join the game).

- No soliciting, but commentary on player’s favorite (or any) series is highly encouraged.

The game is good fun – especially if you are a motorhead ;)

Here’s the link again to make your picks: www.roadracetracks.com/motorracinggame.shtml. Please e-mail me through WordPress or at the pick site for a user-id and a PIN. The default PIN is 0000 (zeros). You can use this default as long as you want, but having your own PIN will help protect you from other people posting picks in your name.

Good luck!

  1. Hmmm. WRC.com has an empty entry list!

  2. Week One guide-and-links here:

The entry-list of forty-five is awaiting FIA approval. It usually is blank until lateish on, but, as mentioned (and linked to) in the guide, the Wikipedia entry-table shows the expected entrants. Concerning the main drivers, it is the same as Monte Carlo.

  3. I have just noticed the Week Zero post was listed as being by ‘Sebastian X’ when iomracer posted it. How did that happen? Obviously, iomracer did the post using his id log-in, not mine. I guess that must have confused people. Bloody WordPress!

  4. Matthew Wilson will be driving Nasser Al-Attiyah’s Citroen in Sweden this weekend. Anyone who picks Nasser I’ll score as if they picked Matthew. If you pick both, it’ll only be counted as one pick, so unfortunately you won’t get double points ;)

  5. Hi, I’d forgotten about this and just saw Seb’s email so thanks for that.

I’m trying to use the form but it isn’t working. I click Add and the names don’t carry over to the right. I try to Add again and it says they are already added, so I figured it’s adding them without showing them… but no, I Submit and it tells me I haven’t picked anyone. I’m using Firefox.

For clarification this is my entry:
    Henning Solberg
    Jari Ketomaa
    Evgeny Novikov
    Dani Sordo
    Juha Hanninen
    Sebastien Loeb
    Sebastien Ogier

(Note – if it did submit you’ll see I chose Wilson over Ogier, I only saw Ogier afterwards – if that means I’ve picked Wilson then so be it I don’t mind).

  6. The form doesn’t work for me either from Seb’s email. I haven’t been able to inform you until now as I have a 6-month old who has been sick and has taken all of my time, so here are my picks, take them or leave them:

    Loeb
    Ogier
    Sordo
    Hirvonen
    Novikov
    H. Solberg (where is P???)
    Østberg

  7. Petter is out of a drive, and will be doing rallycross. I thought about Henning, but after how often he pulled out at the eleventh hour last year, I decided to avoid him. However, he is up and running.

  8. Hirvonen has lost 24 minutes stuck in a snowbank.

  9. Pat and Rubbergoat – sorry for the problems you encountered with the form. I have manually added your picks (Rubbergoat was past the deadline, but the inability to use the form I believe to be a reasonable excuse).

Does anyone know how Javascript works with Firefox? If you do, and can look at my code I’d appreciate it – the code is very simple.

  10. Thanks iomracer for accepting my picks and I hope everyone else is ok with the circumstances.

Can you please set me up with a personal login and PIN number, etc.?

  11. rubbergoat – can you e-mail me at admin@roadracetracks.com and I’ll reply with your PIN. That way noone else gets to see it.

  12. I am in the process of compiling the Week Two guide-and-links, and the new NASCAR site is a nightmare. Amongst other problems, it has just taken twenty minutes (with a degree of detective work) to look up one result-page! Whoever designed the new site, agonising death would be too good for them!

They have also scrapped the old driver-stat pages, so that is my picking ability out the window. Grr.
